Human presence sensing is an extremely important application technology in smart homes, where smart home devices respond or interact accordingly by accurately sensing human presence and status. However, for a long time, the human body sensors are generally not accurate enough, can not monitor the static human body and other problems.

In response to this problem, Infineon Technologies (Infineon), a global leader in semiconductor solutions, and Aqara Green Rice, a leader in whole-home intelligence, have launched a cost-effective and complete human presence solution for smart homes, namely the Aqara Human Presence Sensor FP1. The product is officially available in Aqara e-commerce and offline Aqara Home smart home experience. It is equipped with Infineon's highly accurate XENSIV™ millimeter wave radar, enabling reliable human presence detection and motion tracking in the home environment. It is also the world's first smart home solution that uses millimeter wave radar and supports Apple's HomeKit platform, elevating the level of human presence sensing to a new level.

Previously, the common human sensor in the market is PIR passive pyroelectric infrared sensor, which can only do the detection of human movement, and cannot accurately determine whether there is someone in the house. In the smart home scene, the human body sensor is often used with intelligent switch to achieve lighting control, but if the user in the study or in the living room to watch TV and other processes to maintain a relatively fixed posture for a long time, the human body sensor does not detect human movement, there will be a mistake to turn off the lights and other problems. Although many smart cameras on the market also has the function of motion detection and human recognition, but these products are easy to bring privacy issues.

Infineon and Aqara green rice jointly launched the human presence sensor FP1 is the "killer app" to solve the above problems. Equipped with Infineon's XENSIV™ millimeter wave radar chip BGT60TR13C, the solution not only overcomes the weakness of PIR which is easily affected by light and temperature interference, but also can accurately determine whether there is someone in the room without violating the user's privacy, solving the industry pain point that static human body cannot be identified. In the smart home scene, the human presence sensor FP1 based on millimeter wave radar technology is also capable of real-time motion, space, direction and distance detection in all aspects, greatly stimulating the connection and integration between people, devices and space, thus realizing the whole house intelligent linkage.

The BGT60TR13C is compact in size, with an architecture of one transmitter and three receivers, using embedded antenna technology, which meets the requirements of consumer products for device miniaturization and low power consumption. In addition, it has a shorter wavelength for higher accuracy and sensitivity. Paired with the comprehensive development tools, software algorithms and technical support provided by Infineon, the millimeter wave radar chip has the ability to accurately identify the subtle movements of the human body, including the tiny displacement of the chest cavity when breathing.

The era of smart home has arrived, Infineon will work together with Aqara Green Rice to explore the application prospects of millimeter wave radar and other new technologies in the consumer market," said Guohao Li, Director of Application Marketing, Power and Sensing Systems Division, Infineon Technologies Greater China. The FP1 human presence sensor developed by Aqara Green Rice based on Infineon XENSIV™ millimeter wave radar chip BGT60TR13C is one of the latest achievements. As Aqara Green Rice continues to develop new smart home devices with various sensing functions and seamless linkage, the XENSIV™ millimeter wave radar chip will have more use and become one of the important forces to help Aqara Green Rice develop leading smart home devices and go to market as soon as possible.

In fact, Infineon has a long-standing relationship with Aqara Green Rice. 2020, Aqara Green Rice signed a software license agreement with Infineon to use Infineon's millimeter wave radar for new product development. Infineon also actively shared its experience and know-how with Aqara Green Rice during the product testing and signal tuning phase to drive the smooth deployment of the product. In the future, Infineon will continue to develop cost-effective sensor products, including millimeter wave radar, and provide different antenna, packaging and software options to help smart home device manufacturers such as Aqara Green Rice to introduce more smart home devices with intuitive sensing capabilities, thus promoting the intelligence, automation and energy saving of the home environment.
