ON Semiconductor releases 10BASE-T1S controller

FREE-SKY (HK) ELECTRONICS CO.,LIMITED / 08-06 16:07

ON, a leader in intelligent power and intelligent sensing technologies, today announced a new 10BASE-T1S Ethernet controller designed to provide reliable multipoint communications in industrial environments. the NCN26010 simplifies installation, enables greater data throughput, and enables more than 40 nodes on a single twisted pair, exceeding the IEEE 802.3cg standard node count requirements by a factor of five, reducing installation costs and setup complexity.

For in-cabinet cabling, the NCN26010 reduces cabling by up to 70% while significantly increasing bandwidth. In the backplane, it simplifies layout and power distribution without impacting data rates or latency. With this new device, many applications such as elevators will be able to increase data throughput over existing cabling, and complex sensor networks can be built with simple and low-cost cable-laying alignments due to the ability to transmit power over data cables.

Michel De Mey, vice president of ON Semiconductor's Industrial Solutions Division, said: "The NCN26010 enables larger multi-station connectivity networks, reducing the total number of networks in large installations. Customers are adopting our new fully integrated controller solution that is smaller in size and easier to integrate than previous controllers."

The new controller enables multi-station connected communications 10BASE-T1S (802.3cg) Ethernet, effectively replacing traditional point-to-point and multi-point on the same bus (multi-point) industrial communication standards. t1S MAC/PHY can replace standards such as RS-485, CAN, RS-232 and HART. As a result, greater data throughput is achieved over existing wiring, eliminating the need to rewire and saving the largest expense in network installation.

Single-pair Ethernet installations based on this controller reduce the amount, size and cost of wiring, while multi-station functionality allows multiple nodes such as sensors to be connected to a single twisted pair. the NCN26010 also contains proprietary enhanced noise immunity, which is critical for installations in electrically noisy industrial environments.

In addition, the NCN26010 has lower capacitance on the line pins than existing T1S solutions, thus supporting more nodes on a single network. Because communication with the NCN26010 can occur over SPI, the pin count is lower and the package size is smaller. the NCN26010 is the industry's first 10BASE-T1S-enabled PHY + MAC controller that connects to controllers, sensors and other devices without an external MAC.

The NCN26010 and accompanying development hardware are available now.
