On July 21, Renesas Electronics announced the completion of its acquisition of Reality Analytics, Inc. (Reality AI), an outstanding provider of embedded AI solutions, on July 19, 2022, following approval from Reality AI shareholders and regulators.

The acquisition is said to enable Renesas Electronics to expand its suite of tools and software products for AI applications and enhance Renesas Electronics' own ability to provide highly optimized endpoint solutions combining hardware and software. Among other things, combining Reality AI's AI inference technology with Renesas Electronics' MCU and MPU products will enable a seamless integration of machine learning and signal processing.

Reality AI, headquartered in Columbia, Maryland, USA, provides a wide range of embedded AI and miniature machine learning (TinyML) solutions for advanced non-visual sensing in automotive, industrial and consumer products. Upon completion of the acquisition, Reality AI becomes an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Renesas Electronics. Renesas Electronics now has Reality AI's team of artificial intelligence experts and AIoT R&D Center of Excellence in Maryland, USA.
