Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong received additional extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment from ASML, which is crucial for the production of next-generation semiconductors, Korean media BusinessKorea reported today (June 16).

Samsung Electronics said on the 15th that Lee met with ASML executives, including CEO Peter Wennink and CTO Martin van den Brink, at ASML's headquarters in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, on the 14th (local time).

It is reported that Lee had extensive discussions with ASML executives on future semiconductor technology, semiconductor market outlook, EUV lithography equipment supply, and mid- and long-term business directions.

However, Samsung Electronics did not disclose details of the additional EUV lithography equipment to be provided by ASML for the time being. BusinessKorea reported that the company needs to secure a stable supply of EUV equipment to overtake TSMC and become the world's number one player in wafer foundry.

It is understood that Lee Jae-yong met with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte at the Prime Minister's Office in The Hague on June 14 local time. Samsung Electronics said Lee and Prime Minister Rutte discussed cooperation to strengthen semiconductor foundry capabilities and address global semiconductor supply chain issues. Samsung said Lee Jae-yong requested support from the Dutch Prime Minister to ensure that ASML's EUV equipment can be supplied in a stable manner.
